This newly published paper authored by our partners in the Research Centre for Energy Resources and Consumption CIRCE published a paper on the Assessment of EU Bio-Based Economy Sectors Based on Environmental, Socioeconomic, and Technical Indicators to the Special Issue of Sustainability in Bioeconomy and Bioenergy.
The European Union’s focus on sustainable practices necessitates a robust circular bio-based economy. The paper presents an extensive analysis across key sectors like textiles, woodworking, and biofuels evaluates their socio-environmental and economic impacts. A methodology linking geographical origin, imports, and production with impacts is proposed. Socioeconomic and technical data aid in identifying sector-specific opportunities and barriers. Additionally, strategies for valorizing non-hazardous biogenic waste streams are discussed, facilitating the formulation of improvement proposals.
